Identifying Regular Languages over Partially-Commutative Monoids

چکیده
We deene a new technique useful in identifying a subclass of regular languages deened on a free partially commutative monoid (regular trace languages), using equivalence and membership queries. Our algorithm extends an algorithm deened by Dana Angluin in 1987 to learn DFA's. The words of a trace language can be seen as equivalence classes of strings. We show how to extract, from a given equivalence class, a string of an unknown underlying regular language. These strings can drive the original learning algorithm which identify a regular string language that deenes also the target trace language. In this way the algorithm applies also to classes of unrecognizable regular trace languages and, as a corollary, to a class of unrecognizable string languages. We also discuss bounds on the number of examples needed to identify the target language and on the time required to process them.

Commutative Positive Varieties of Languages
We study the commutative positive varieties of languages closed under various operations: shuffle, renaming and product over one-letter alphabets. Most monoids considered in this paper are finite. In particular, we use the term variety of monoids for variety of finite monoids. Similarly, all languages considered in this paper are regular languages and hence their syntactic monoid is finite.
متن کاملVarieties of Cost Functions
Regular cost functions were introduced as a quantitative generalisation of regular languages, retaining many of their equivalent characterisations and decidability properties. For instance, stabilisation monoids play the same role for cost functions as monoids do for regular languages. The purpose of this article is to further extend this algebraic approach by generalizing two results on regula...
متن کاملOn Recognizable Languages in Left Divisibility Monoids
We describe a class of monoids where c-rational languages can be deened analogously to trace theory and where these languages are precisely the recognizable ones. The proofs rely on Ramsey's theorem, distributive lattice theory and on Hashigushi's rank function generalized to our left divisibility monoids. We obtain Ochma nski's theorem on recognizable languages in free partially commutative mo...
متن کاملPartially Commutative Inverse Monoids
Free partially commutative inverse monoids are investigated. Analogously to free partially commutative monoids (trace monoids), free partially commutative inverse monoids are the quotients of free inverse monoids modulo a partially defined commutation relation on the generators. A quasi linear time algorithm for the word problem is presented, more precisely, we give an O(n log(n)) algorithm for...
متن کاملM. Droste and P. Gastin On aperiodic and star-free formal power series in partially commuting variables
Formal power series over non-commuting variables have been investigated as representations of the behavior of automata with multiplicities. Here we introduce and investigate the concepts of aperiodic and of star-free formal power series over semirings and partially commuting variables. We prove that if the semiring K is idempotent and commutative, or if K is idempotent and the variables are non...
